Use Ethernet When Possible
A computer connected directly to your router with Ethernet gives a better picture
of the internet connection than a Wi-Fi-only test.
Pause Other Activity
Pause video streaming, cloud backups, game downloads, security-camera viewing
and other heavy internet usage while testing.
Turn Off VPN Connections
VPN services can route your traffic through another location and may significantly
change latency and throughput results.
Test More Than Once
Run several tests at different times. A single result may not represent the normal
performance of your connection.
Wi-Fi Has Its Own Limits
Distance, walls, interference, older devices and crowded Wi-Fi channels can reduce
the speed measured by wireless devices.
Check the Device
Older computers, phones, network adapters and routers may not be capable of reaching
the full speed of your internet plan.

A speed test usually reports download speed, upload speed and latency.
Each measurement describes a different part of your connection.

How quickly your device sends information to the internet.
The amount of time it takes data to travel between your device and the test server.
